The Horse Rider's Journal

Rein man

Behind the scenes with five-time WEG reining gold medallist Shawn Flarida in Horseware’s Making a Champion short film series.

Equestrian sport is notorious for its weird and wonderful rider superstitions. Take reining superstar Shawn Florida, who is never seen showing in anything but a green shirt. The five-time World Equestrian Games gold medallist didn’t get to the top of the sport because of his fashion choices, though, but through hard work and an artist’s dedication to what he rightly calls his “craft”.

In Horseware’s latest atmospheric short film from its Making a Champion series the Ohio horseman discusses his favourite horses (top name points for Gunnatrashya), his training methods and how he uses Horseware’s Ice-Vibe circulation therapy boots to keep his horses’ legs and joints safe and sound – and how it really does take a village to get to the highest level of the sport.
