The heat this summer has occasionally bestowed upon us has inspired us to online stalk magnificent equestrian properties in the countryside …with swimming pools. Purposely looking up mansions of titanic proportions with the most luxurious of amenities may seem somewhat extravagant and even a little masochistic, unless you’re a oil magnate or a Kardashian, maybe; but we like to think that at least we’ll be prepared for the day we strike gold.

Polo palace: Woolmers Park, Hertfordshire

Quality and quantity aren’t always mutually exclusive, and this 232-acre estate in Hertfordshire (pictured here and top image) that comes with a Georgian country house proves that: the beautiful equestrian facilities on the property include 4 polo fields (the Prince of Wales played here as a Cambridge undergraduate), a polo arena and indoor school, both with all weather canter tracks as well as stabling for over 30 horses in additions to the house stable, shall you ever decide to host a polo game. Oh, and there’s not one, but two pools. No big deal.

Jacobean horse heaven: Alderley House, Gloucestershire

It’s not a roundup of aspirational equestrian properties if the Cotswolds aren’t involved. And even in the Cotswolds this one takes the cake: three floors of Jacobean splendour, which includes a floodlit riding arena, as well as practice grass polo ground. There is also a tennis court, and right next to it, a swimming pool, shall you get a bit too sweaty swinging the racket.

Artful equestrianism: Milhanger, Surrey

Built in 1907 and with a rock ‘n’ roll lineage (Roger Taylor of Queen lived here for 24 years), this Arts and Crafts style mansion overlooks gardens, lakes and the rolling countryside of Surrey. The grounds include a stable yard with 10 loose boxes, a manège, fenced paddocks and acres of woodland. Of course, there is also a swimming pool — a beautiful rustic indoor space, Jacuzzi and an abundance of tall windows included.
